Gas, backflow, and clean water—done to code

Fuel lines have to be leak-free; backflow assemblies have to satisfy the water purveyor; softeners have to drain correctly.

Texas Gulf Coast homes often run gas for ranges, dryers, pool heaters, and outdoor kitchens. Backflow assemblies protect drinking water when irrigation or boiler systems can reverse flow. Water softeners fight the hardness that eats fixtures and water heaters—if they are plumbed with the right bypass and drain, not an afterthought hose across the garage floor.

Gas, backflow, and clean water—done to code — Armstrong Plumbing

Where we focus

  • Pressure-test gas runs and bubble-test connections before we leave.
  • Backflow RP, DCVA, and PVB devices installed and rebuilt for your hazard level—not a generic box.
  • Softener loops, drains, and outside hose bibs planned so regeneration brine does not wreck landscaping.
1
Load calc

We check BTU demand and pipe sizing so new gas loads do not starve existing appliances.

2
Permit path

When your city or gas provider requires inspection, we leave documentation you can file.

3
Test & tag

Backflow tests documented; gas lines verified with manometer or approved method.

Galveston County and many mainland cities follow Texas Commission on Environmental Quality expectations for backflow on irrigation ties. Your water supplier’s form is not optional paperwork—it is how you avoid shutoff notices after an audit.

Worth a closer look

CSST bonding

Corrugated stainless steel gas tubing must be bonded where required. Skipping it is not a shortcut—it is a failed inspection.

Outdoor hose bibs after softeners

Irrigation should usually stay on hard water. We route lines so you do not kill plants with sodium-rich water.

FAQ

How often does a backflow assembly need testing?

Most residential irrigation assemblies need annual testing; commercial or fire-line devices may be shorter. Your water purveyor’s letter sets the schedule.

Can you add a gas line for an outdoor kitchen?

Often yes. We verify meter capacity, routing, and venting, then install with proper shutoffs and sediment traps where applicable.

Do softeners work with tankless heaters?

Yes, but chemistry still matters — extremely soft water can be aggressive to some metals, so we set the system to land in a healthy range.

What is CSST bonding and do I need it?

Corrugated stainless steel gas tubing must be bonded where required. Skipping it fails inspection, period.

Should irrigation run through my softener?

Usually not — sodium-rich water can damage landscaping, so we route hose bibs off the hard-water side.
